Volunteer with Community Harvest of Vermont

You and your teams, friends, and families (including kids) are invited this coming Saturday at 12:30 pm to join Community Harvest of Central Vermont for what is likely the last big apple orchard glean of the season.

It’s a fun activity for all ages, and there are always plenty of apples so you can take some home with you, as well as doing a part in National Life’s commitment to make a difference in childhood hunger in Vermont.

What is gleaning? Community Harvest of Central Vermont coordinates volunteers to gather or “glean” unused fresh produce from farms and deliver it to food pantries and food programs, to reach Vermonters who might not have access to fresh, healthy local food. In 2018, this program delivered almost 50,000 pounds of food to 20 organizations that serve over 9,000 Vermonters – food that would have otherwise gone to waste.

This year has been a bumper crop and CHCV is approaching 10,000 of apples gleaned this season. Come help top 10,000 and keep lots more beautiful apples from rotting in the orchard. Follow the link below to get the directions and all details, and RSVP as an individual or for a group. Once you create an account with Vermont Gleaning Collective, you can also opt to get emails about future opportunities. Gleaning is a great team building activity and there are activities into the fall that are not outside/field work.

Register here.

There’s another opportunity to glean with Community Harvest on Wednesday, November 6th from 10:00 am – 12:15 pm near National Life Group. If interested, email asteinmetz@nationallife.com.
