The National Life Group Foundation granted more than $1 million this spring to nonprofit organizations, most of which supported Coronavirus relief.

In the area of general grants to nonprofits, the Foundation donated a total of $995,500. Of that, 52 percent support hunger relief, including:

  • $100,000 to the Vermont Foodbank.
  • $100,000 to the North Texas Food Bank.
  • $100,000 to Hunger Free Vermont.

The Foundation also donated $100,000 each to Covid-19 response funds that were established by the Vermont Community Foundation and the North Texas Community Foundation.

Another $10,000 was donated to sponsor lunches through Montpelier restaurants, keeping their employees working and frontline workers fed.

In addition to financial support, National Life provided 58 refurbished laptop computers to Washington County Mental Health Services as well as Prevent Child Abuse Vermont for telehealth appointments. The company also worked with the City of Montpelier to build and install a Do Good Cupboard to provide vulnerable individuals with emergency food items and necessities.

“We’re honored to be able to do good,” said Beth Rusnock, foundation president. “It’s inspiring to see the impact nonprofits are making to better our communities every day, especially during the pandemic.”

National Life employees are also planting a Do Good Garden in which the harvest will be donated to People’s Health and Wellness Clinic in Barre. In addition, National Life encourages its employees to volunteer with nonprofits and schools.
