Building Awareness by Doing Good

June is Hunger Awareness Month. Before the Coronarvirus pandemic struck, we knew hunger was an issue in our communities. But now unemployment is rising, children are out of school, and seniors are afraid to go to grocery stores since they’re in a high-risk category for Covid-19. The North Texas Food Bank shared that one of its agencies has seen a 119% increase in need for food. In Vermont, cars were lined up for miles to receive one box of food.

At National Life, we recognize the importance of getting healthy food to those who need it. That’s why we adopted the cause of helping end childhood hunger in Vermont. During the pandemic, we’ve further stepped up our giving including sponsoring lunches for clients of local nonprofits, installing a Do Good Cupboard in downtown Montpelier, starting a Do Good Garden, and donating to multiple hunger relief efforts both in Texas and Vermont (see the list below).

To further focus on this cause in June, you’ll see a temporary logo (an orange plate and fork) representing hunger awareness embellishing some of our communications, including National Life Today. We’ll continue to process donations to additional hunger relief organizations. Plus we’ll roll out some other opportunities for each of us to help; stay tuned to National Life Today for more information.

Until then, Age Well (Vermont) and the VNA (Texas) need Meals on Wheels volunteers as does the Vermont Gleaning Collective.  And if you’d like to learn more about the organizations we’ve donated to so far, check them out below. There will be more to come.
