Isn’t it great that our founder, Julius Dewey, has decided to join us for our 170th anniversary.

We had a preview of what to expect as anniversary festivities kick off when Dr. Dewey dropped in on this week’s all-employee meetings.

He promises to return in November for the anniversary itself.

He is particularly intrigued to visit Texas, since it hadn’t been a state for very long when National Life was chartered by the Vermont Legislature on Nov. 13, 1848. Texas was just shy of three years old at the time.

So Dr. Dewey has scheduled a visit to the Texas campus on Nov. 7, when there will be a reception in the Addison office.

And he also has scheduled a return to Vermont for an open house and reception in Montpelier on Nov. 13.

There will also be another all-employee gathering on Nov. 13 in which the two campuses and remote employees will be joined through technology to mark the 170th.

Details are still being completed for these events and they’ll be shared in coming weeks.
