Our charitable foundation dedicated itself to addressing childhood hunger several years ago. And it’s determined to go after the problem in as many different ways as possible.
So, as we observe Hunger Action Awareness Month in September, we thought we would focus on the increasing support we’ve provided to Vermont-based community action agency.
Capstone Community Action is an agency that the National Life Group Foundation has supported with financial gifts for many years.
But we’ve increased our donations in recent years because Capstone’s work directly helps families with children who are not getting enough to eat.
Community action agencies have broad mandates to help those who are struggling.
Capstone has placed a great deal of emphasis in recent years on hunger relief, particularly for children.
“Our food and nutrition programs support healthy eating and food access for all and our food shelf features delicious meals prepared from rescued food through our Community Kitchen Academy workforce development program,” Capstone says on its website.
There are several different programs within Capstone focused on providing wholesome, healthy food those who need it, including food distribution, nutritious meals and “farm to family coupons” that allow families to shop at local farmers markets.
Many of those have components that focus in particular on children, which fits into the National Life Foundation’s central cause.
Capstone also welcomes any National Life employees who are interested in using some of their company-paid volunteer time.
The agency’s food shelf program is a great place to put your own labor to work in the community
