The Four Winds Nature Program is seeking volunteers to help get kids outside.
We want children to become lifelong learners who love science and who look at the natural world with wonder, understanding, and appreciation.
Research shows a rise in children’s interest in science when parents (and other caring adults!) participate in science-related activities with their children, nurturing children’s natural curiosity about our world! The Four Winds Nature Program brings adults and children together in a learning community that uses the nearby nature as the classroom.
Many schools throughout Vermont are enrolled in the Nature Program (maybe already at your school?). We have 1,500 parent and community volunteers attending training workshops at their schools and then teaching these hands-on lessons to children from kindergarten through sixth grade. For many of these schools, the Nature Program is a cornerstone to their science education. But we need parents and community members willing and excited to get into their schools to help make this program happen.
If you are looking for an exciting volunteer opportunity where you get to learn and have fun in the great outdoors, while introducing exciting natural science concepts to the next generation, we would love your help! Most schools have 6 to 8 lessons a year, with each volunteer contributing some 30-40 hours of volunteer time as part of the program.
