Check out these volunteer opportunities for both campuses.
Texas campus
Vogel Alcove is looking for volunteers to help in a number of different ways.
Working with homeless children requires highly-skilled staff with specialized training in trauma-informed care.
But there are still have a variety of opportunities for individuals, groups and corporate teams to volunteer with the children they serve.
Regular Volunteers
Individuals or groups who volunteer more than three times per month are considered “regular” and must meet a few requirements before getting started: filling out a volunteer form, submitting to a background check and attending a brief volunteer orientation.
One-Time or Occasional Volunteers
Individuals or groups that would like to volunteer with Vogel Alcove for a specific project or on an occasional basis simply need to sign a release form in order to begin volunteering.
Volunteer Opportunities
Below are descriptions of many of the volunteer needs.
With the exception of Classroom Buddy, all of these roles can be filled by either regular or occasional volunteers, as an individual or a group.
Classroom Buddy
A Classroom Buddy “shadows” our teachers and spends time with the children in a classroom.
He or she has the opportunity to read books, encourage the children in hands-on activities and more. Buddies are assigned to a particular class so that they regularly interact with the same children and teachers.
Backyard Buddy
Volunteers can sign up to help make sure the children stay safe and engaged on our playground, called “The Backyard.”
The playground has areas for making music, dramatic play, water play and art as well as picnic tables, slides and hills.
Backyard Buddies can still help out if the weather requires staying indoors.
Enrichment Activities Helper
Volunteers assist the children with developmentally-appropriate, indoor and outdoor activities that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, math and/or music, literacy, yoga, etc.
Resource Center Activities
When we receive donated items, we sort and organize them in our Resource Center.
Volunteers can help with the daily maintenance and inventory of the Resource Center.
Bye-Bye Bags
In addition to breakfast, lunch and snack, we also distribute Bye-Bye bags to our children at the end of the day.
These snack sacks provide additional nutrition when the children are away from our facility.
Volunteers gather the supplies and fill the bags.
Special Activities
Groups of volunteers can assist as chaperones on field trips, help out in our holiday store, or assist in other activities.
This is a great opportunity for volunteers interact with our families in a fun way.
