Who remembers this cutie? Harley was living at the Central Vermont Humane Society and hoping to find his forever home for the holidays. And, he did just that!
Contact Center Representative Sophia Manley saw Harley’s story on National Life Today and instantly fell in love. Within a few days she brought Harley home from CVHS.
Here’s an update from Sophia:
I first saw Harley on National Life Today the first day he was posted there. It was the picture of him in his Christmas elf sweater and obviously I had to check him out to find out more information. Who can resist a dog in a sweater? I read a little more about him and was heartbroken for him when I found out one of his previous owners had passed. I’m sure he was missing his old family lots. After clicking on his picture every day when I logged into my computer and every day before I went home I decided I at least had to go meet him.
For YEARS now I have wanted a dog and was quick to volunteer to watch and to help out with my friend’s animals in whatever capacity I could. Before starting at National Life I worked in the service industry with a very sporadic schedule and it just seemed unreasonable and unfair for me to adopt a dog. Now with a set schedule I felt I was ready to take on that new adventure. I read that Harley had some special needs; he is a diabetic who needed a strict twelve hour feeding and insulin schedule and that coincided with my new schedule perfectly.
When I went to go meet him he immediately pulled at my heart strings and I knew the visit would turn into more than “just saying hi”. When I mentioned to the staff that I was there to meet Harley every single one of them lit up with admiration and love for him. It was obvious, even before meeting him, that he was a very good boy. Upon meeting him he was all snuggles, and licks. It took only a few wags of his tiny tail to know that this was the dog I had waited so long for. Santa was at CVHS that day as they were doing a fundraising event, so Santa and the slightly teary eyes staff sang Harley “I’ll be Home for Christmas” as a very sweet good bye song.
Harley is settling in wonderfully. His first order of business was unpacking all 5 of his very coveted tennis balls. He enjoys long walks while trying to make as many friends as possible. After his walks he enjoys warming up by playing catch with his tennis balls (he might be 11 years old, but sure doesn’t play like it…), and once he’s tired out he’ll take to the couch and tuck himself in under the blankets. He likes to keep an eye on me as I’m moving about the house, and likes to know that I’m okay. I can’t wait to get to know him better and give him the best collection of doggy sweaters he’s ever seen. I’m so happy to have him in my life and couldn’t have given myself a better Christmas present!
Thank you for doing good for Harley, Sophia!
