We hope you’ll consider volunteering at Hunger Busters! The key program at Hunger Busters is focused on feeding kids and fueling futures by providing a much-needed third meal of the day to food-insecure children in Dallas Independent School District through its signature “Feed the Need” after school program.

This past 2018-2019 school year, Hunger Busters provided meals to 11 DISD schools and 6 after school programs — that’s over 420,000 meals! Research consistently shows that increasing the nutrition of a food-insecure child improves health, educational performance, and the opportunity to grow into a civic-minded adult.

Hunger Busters is in need of volunteers to donate two hours of their time to help them fulfill their mission. Volunteers perform various activities from making thousands of ham and cheese sandwiches, bagging sandwiches and cookies using an automated bagging machine, and then assembling thousands of brown bag meals so that they can be delivered to participating schools.  Volunteers also help maintain the cleanliness of the facility by washing dishes, cleaning, sweeping, and moping.

Volunteer shifts take place during the week as follows:

  • Sundays:  10 am-12 pm, 1-3 pm and 3-5 pm
  • Mondays – Wednesdays:  10 am-12 pm and 2:30-4:30pm
  • Thursdays:  10 am -12 pm

If you would like to secure a date and time to volunteer, please contact Jason Garza as soon as possible.
