Team Scrabble

The Spirit Committee is organizing a team scrabble competition the week of April 8th-12th to celebrate National Scrabble Day.

GAME RULES
OBJECT:

Use your team’s earned letters to form the highest valued, correctly spelled word.

TEAMS:

This is a team scrabble game. You will participate in teams of four (4) people. Players may only participate on one (1) team.

EARNING LETTERS:

There will be 1 opportunity to draw 7 letter tiles on during the week of April 8th – 12th.

An eighth (8) tile will be drawn for an opportunity to improve your score.  Your team has a choice, during this drawing, to pull a replacement letter or draw for a Power Multiplier tile. The value of the Power Multiplier tiles will be either, triple-word, double-word, triple-letter, or double-letter.

If your team chooses to draw the replacement letter, you will be able to do so only after turning in one of your existing letters.

Please look at the times below and let the spirit committee know which day your team will be competing on.

TIMELINE:
  • Monday, April 8th: Team deadline to have teams created and sent to spirit committee.
    • TX campus: email Morgan Hopkins to sign up.
    • VT campus: email Christina D’Agostino to sign up.
  • Tuesday, April 9th: 12:30PM until 1:00PM EST (11:30AM until 12:00PM CST)
  • Wednesday, April 10th: 12:30PM until 1:00PM EST (11:30AM until 12:00PM CST)
  • Thursday, April 11th: 12:30PM until 1:00PM EST (11:30AM until 12:00PM CST)
  • Friday, April 12th: 12:30PM until 1:00PM EST (11:30AM until 12:00PM CST)
  • Monday, April 15thwinners will be announced.
RULES:
  • One chance, per team (1 drawing).
  • All teams will have a maximum of seven (7) letters to use.
  • Any word that is a part of speech (for example, a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb), including plural, form or tense of the word, is acceptable, as long as it can be found in a standard English Dictionary.
  • Words that are not acceptable: Abbreviations, proper nouns, words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe. When in doubt, ask.
  • Teams will only have 2 minutes to come up with their word (timed).
HOW TO WIN:

Once your team has drawn 7 tiles you will have 2 minutes to determine the best possible word. If you have a Power Multiplier, attach that tile to the appropriate location on the word—either at the end of the word for a word Power Multiplier or under the appropriate letter for a letter Power Multiplier.

In the chance of a tie, a drawing will be held to determine the winning team.  Members of the winning team will each receive a lunch ticket or gift card for lunch.
