Did you see one of these signs sitting on your desk Monday morning? The facilities waste diversion team is challenging employees to “kick the can” and stop using their desk side trash bin. Did you know that we sort waste into 5 categories in our facility: paper recycling, mixed recycling, returnable cans/bottles, compost, and trash? Our desks have only two bins (and only the trash is emptied by the cleaning staff). Deskside bins are clearly an inefficient waste collection system. They lead to poor waste sorting and diversion. There are multiple sorting stations on every floor, and coverage will expand in the future.
Challenge yourself, challenge your coworkers! You can still join the initiative. Look at the following picture to see proper card + bin placement. Zero Waste Office Space cards will be placed on counter top space next to the hallways around the building. There will be a stack on the windowsill just outside every Stairwell “A” door. Cards can also be found in the Facilities Management office or by contacting CMaitland@nationallife.com. Finally, a big thank you to everyone who took on the challenge
