Do Good season is nearly upon us.

Well, to be honest, every day is Do Good season around here, but this is one of two times each year that we organize a series of volunteer opportunities for employees.

The Volunteer Committee on both campuses is organizing opportunities and sign-ups will be posted on National Life Today.

The opportunities will begin the week of April 29 and continue through May. We’ve set a goal of recording 850 hours of National Life Do Good hours during this period.

So please be sure to use the Volunteer Time Tracker on National Life Today to help us keep track.

We’ve already got one opportunity under way in Texas. You can help fight local food insecurity through the Sack Summer Hunger program at MetroCrest Services.

Metrocrest is seeking volunteers to help our Intake staff process applications for the program during our enrollment period.

Nearly 60% of children attending school in the Carrollton, Farmers Branch ISD get free and reduced meals through school.  Those meals are not available during school closings. During the summer break that equals 10 missed meals a week!  The Sack Summer Hunger Program ensures that kids don’t miss valuable nutrition

Volunteer tasks:

  • Review completed applications, ensuring that all required portions are completed before the clients  work with an Intake staff member to complete the registration process.  In 2018 , we served 1,647 students 113,990 meals, the application process is the first step for these families to receive assistance!

Qualifications:

  • Volunteers for this task must be 18 or older, and sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Be patient and compassionate.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) is preferred , but not required.
  • Great communication skills.

Shifts

  • 9 am to 11 am  April 15th to May 20th  – 2 volunteers needed
  • 9:30 am to 12:00 pm on Saturdays  April 15th, April 27th, May 4th, May 11th, and May 18- 2 volunteers needed
