Sandra Winkley-Pikes, National Life’s first LifeChanger of the Year grand prize winner, died earlier this month.

Winkley-Pikes was a special education teacher and coordinator of the advancement via individual determination program at W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas.

She became an instant ambassador for the LifeChanger program after she was named our first winner in the 2011-2012 school year.

“She is an inspirational and encouraging woman who is constantly inspiring her students with hope, to reach for a life full of success and achieved goals,” student Cinthya Saravia about Winkley-Pikes on her LifeChanger of the Year profile. “Mrs. Winkley is the sort of person who leaves a permanent footprint in a person’s life.”

A colleague shared similar sentiments in her obituary. “Sandra, you will dearly be missed. I remember when you first came to Samuell, back in the ‘80s, and I will never forget the impact you made on my life. You encouraged me to go to college, in which I did, and went on to pursue my Masters, and for that I am grateful to you for your inspiration.”

National Life made a memorial contribution in Winkley-Pikes’ memory.
