National Life sent money, supplies and volunteers to the Louisiana flood zone this week to help schools in particular.
Three National Life employees went to Lafayette Parish, which is west of Baton Rouge and New Orleans to provide assistance to the Lafayette Parish School District and particularly to Youngsville.
Lewis Smith, Jennifer Roberts and Maria McLendon toured schools in Youngsville, one of the cities hardest hit by the floods, with the local superintendent. They were accompanied by representatives of ValuTeachers, one of our producers that has a lot of clients in the region.
National Life has 600 clients in Lafayette Parish School District.
Schools across the parish suffered a variety of damage when floods inundates large swaths of Louisiana this month.
There are 39 schools across the district with nearly 2,000 employees and 39,000 students. Many students and schools suffered damage, including losing educational materials.
So National Life packed and sent school supplies to Lafayette Parish. The company and ValuTeachers also teamed up to make a $10,000 donation to the district to replace supplies. And the National Life Foundation donated $750 for additional supplies.
Those presentations are planned today at the district offices in Lafayette and members of the local media have been invited.
