Michael Dunne of Affiliated Distribution has always been one of the better-coiffed members of the team with his thick dark hair and stylish glasses.
So, naturally, his colleagues were curious (and ready to rib him) when he showed up on screen with a coarse gray beard.
Michael responded to them with this:
“A few of you were asking about my facial hair and asked for a way to help me raise awareness about prostate cancer. As many of you know, I am very recently dealing with this disease and thankfully my prognosis is very good!
However, as I’ve gone through this ordeal, I’ve learned quite a bit about prostate cancer and lack of education and awareness challenges that we still face. I knew literally nothing before I was diagnosed and could now bore the heck out of anyone at a cocktail party!
For me, a $40 blood test, that I had to convince my Dr. to order, is what alerted me. Had I not pushed, I wouldn’t have known until much later and with the aggressiveness of my cancer, I’m so glad I got it before it got me!
I chose Zero Cancer’s Grow & Give Campaign to support in particular because they are very focused on education and testing and really helping patients. For example, if a patient needs help getting to and from treatment, they will supply them with Uber and Lyft vouchers. They are also available to speak with patients as they go through the process.
Anyway, this is my ‘Cause’ and if you would like to contribute or grow a sweet beard or mustache, I would be truly touched.”
