Law Department Promotions

I am pleased to announce that Chris Zimmerman has been promoted to the position of Assistant General Counsel.  Chris has been practicing law for 17 years and joined National Life Group in 2013.  Chris heads up our litigation practice and is the point person on most of National Life’s litigation matters, including the Walker matter.  In his six years at National Life, Chris has immersed himself in the business and has developed a strong grasp of all elements of the life and annuity business.  He regularly provides guidance and counsel on legal and regulatory matters involving underwriting, new business, disbursements and claims, and also provides legal counsel to our life and annuity compliance area.  Chris personifies our servant leadership tenets, is a talented lawyer, and is a trusted counselor to many within the company.  Please join me in congratulating Chris on this well-deserved promotion.

I am also pleased to announce that Ian McKenny has been promoted to the position of Assistant General Counsel.  Ian has been practicing law for almost 20 years and joined National Life Group in 2007.  During his tenure at National Life, he has been the lawyer with principal responsibility for legal and regulatory matters at ESI and has performed that role very capably with his trademark enthusiasm and solution-oriented business mindset.  Ian also played a central role in National Life Group’s response to the now defunct DOL fiduciary rule, including the litigation that ultimately abrogated the rule.  He is also our go to lawyer on cybersecurity and privacy matters.  Ian provides a great example to all through his work ethic, excellent legal skills and judgment, and his loyalty and commitment to National Life Group.  Please join me in congratulating Ian on this well-deserved promotion.
