The Executive Management Team hosted our summer interns for breakfast earlier this week.
They usually welcome the group with a plethora of coffee and muffins in one of our campus conference rooms. But because this year’s program is virtual, each intern was given a digital gift card to purchase breakfast ahead of time.
After a brief introduction, interns were placed in breakout groups with members of the Executive Management Team. Their time was spent connecting with each leader, asking questions, and discussing career advice.
Lauren Sunderhaus, who is interning in the People Center this summer, walked away with valuable career advice after meeting with Chris Zimmerman, Bob Cotton and Jason Doiron.
“Much of the advice the executive’s gave centered around being willing to continually learn and keep your options open,” she said. “We also got to learn a little more about each executive’s business area, getting mini lessons on various topics important to National Life.”
Niki Kowsar, who is interning with Strategy and Business Transformation, echoed Lauren’s sentiments.
“It was amazing to learn about their roles within the company and discuss my internship experience thus far. They all encouraged reaching out and communicating with National Life team members, and seeking out learning opportunities to develop our skillsets.”
Our summer interns will be working with us over the next couple of months, participating in various workshops and networking events until the culmination of project presentations in August.
