Contemporary Administrative Professionals are obliterating outdated perceptions of the role by consistently producing at a high-level and becoming essential, key contributors to National Life. From decision-making, influencing and leadership, these positions are more demanding than ever. They operate as a business manager in their own right and are an integral part of their respective team and National Life.
In recognition of Administrative Professionals Day on April 26, we will highlight a few of our administrative professional colleagues this month.
So today, meet Jessica Anderson. Jessica works in our Business Innovation Group in support of Strategic Planning at our Dallas campus. She has been with National Life for almost six months. We asked Jessica a little bit about herself.
- If you were CEO for the day, what would be the first thing on your to-do list? I’d implement a “bring your dog to work” day. I was able to bring my puppy mill rescue (Millie) to my college internship at Fair Park and she absolutely thrived! In fact, she got to meet both Big Tex and Chuck Norris that summer.
- What brought you to Dallas? I received early admission to SMU’s Cox School of Business, which made my decision very simple!
- What brought you to National Life? After working for a small hedge fund in Dallas, I wanted to find a mission-driven organization that would afford me opportunities for growth within the company. It’s been a great fit and can’t wait to find out what lies ahead!
- What has been your most interesting job experience? While I was in grad school, I auditioned for a short-lived VH1 reality TV show. Much to the chagrin of my family and friends, I made it to the final round of auditions and was an “alternate-alternate.” It was fascinating to learn just how “real” reality TV is!
- What is your most cherished family heirloom? My great grandmother’s garnet ring. When I was younger, there were four generations – all born in January.
- What was your first job? During the summers in high school, I lifeguarded at the Country Club of South Carolina; I like to think of it as the perfect first job.
- What was your most memorable meal ever? Bern’s Steak House, the tour of their wine cellar was excellent and unlike anything else I have experienced.
- What’s the biggest strength you bring to National Life? I love learning new things and consider myself a life-long learner.
- What’s your fondest childhood memory? I won the 4-H County Championship when I was 10, which was the start of my equestrian career. I even rode for SMU’s NCAA team!
- Where can we find you during the weekends? I love volunteering with Equest and help with classes on Saturdays; I have been involved with therapeutic horsemanship since high school and think it’s a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community.
