In recognition of Administrative Professionals Day on April 25th, we’re highlighting a few of our administrative professional colleagues this month.
Today, we’re getting to know Rhonda Anderson from our Texas campus.
Did you know that Rhonda has been with National Life for almost 38 years, and was a teenager when she began work for the Policy Issue area in 1980?
From there she moved into Contracts & Licensing, where she worked for three years and often filled in for the Executive Assistants when they were out of office.
In 1984 she began working as an Executive Assistant, and is now supporting her fourth Senior Vice President, one of which she supported for 27 years.
Rhonda holds the position of Secretary for the Texas Campus NLGroup Quarter Century Club, she’s an active member of the Spirit Committee, and has provided services as a Notary, LOMA Education Representative, back-up assistance for the receptionist, and she does it all with a smile.
We asked Rhonda a few questions to learn more about her professional and personal life.
What do you find most rewarding as an administrative professional?
To be considered one of the most resourceful and connected individuals in our organization. I enjoy helping others and do whatever it takes to get the job done. We are problem solvers and fixers—we connect the dots! Flexibility is critical for an administrative professional to survive and thrive.
What advice would you give to someone starting his or her career?
Remain curious; never stop learning about the industry where you work. Educate yourself on time management, team dynamics, project coordination/management, accounting, budget management, marketing, web page design, etc. The scope of the work we do is very wide and so are the skills and the knowledge we acquire and transfer to our daily practice.
Favorite part of working at National Life?
I have had the good fortune of seeing the company through many positive changes over the years but it has always comes down to the people and the values of our company that make me proud to work here.
What is the biggest strength you bring to National Life?
My team player attitude and willingness to learn and help others wherever needed.
Where can we find you during the weekends?
I love spending time with family and friends at chili cook-offs, enjoying time by the pool or the lake during the summer, shopping or watching my favorite television shows, sporting events, or movies.
