It is with mixed emotions that we are announcing the retirement of Fred Barnett. Fred has spent the last 34 ½ years here – and much longer if you count the time he spent here with his father, who worked at NLG for many years prior.
Fred has been a fixture at National Life, and no doubt many of you have seen him walking briskly through the halls on the way to troubleshoot a supply air fan, respond to an alarm in the boiler room or check up on a contractor working somewhere on campus. Fred never went from point A to point B slowly. Through all of his work over the decades he spent on the Facilities team, his fingerprints are on almost all of our systems and his influence has been felt in many ways. He was particularly proud of the main campus electrical upgrade project, and when he would talk about the project after its completion his excitement was contagious. He was truly passionate about National Life, and about maintaining the systems that support daily operations.
Fred will be keeping his cell phone number so folks who want to reach out will be able to stay in touch. He has no immediate plans for the future other than enjoying time with his wife… and certainly plenty of time in the woods.
The entire Facilities Team wishes him the very best for a long and happy retirement.
