Camp CoLo made it to Texas this week and a good time is being had by all at the same time that important new connections are being made and silos are being broken down.

Camp CoLo is short for Camp CoLocation, an idea dreamed up by the Culture Team to help support the one team culture that has developed at National Life.

Five employees from different departments around the company are spending the week doing their regular jobs but working from a conference room set aside for them as their joint work space.

There are also two camp counselors from the Culture Team joining them.

The participants are:

  • Stephanie Dawson—L&A Claims Examiner
  • Tammy Gibbs—Contact Center, Correspondence
  • Stephani Myers—Market Conduct & Compliance
  • Brittany Bolden—New Business Manager
  • Sharon Garcia—Annuity Payment Center

The counselors are Senait Menghes and Maria McLendon.

The campers drew a lot of attention from passers-by with a number of people asking how they could participate in future CoLo camps.

Mike Carter from Application Support, saw an empty seat in the CoLo campground and “copped a squat” and joined the campers for a day. He even joined the campers for lunch and on our camp field trip, delivering an impromptu ‘I am’ poem.

From day one to day five, it is clear that this group of five is more open, and more connected than when we started.

Among the team-building exercises are stories around the campfire and field trips to the coffee bar.

The campers have one more day in the Frontier conference room on the eighth floor. Stop by and say hello if you’ve got some time.
