Last month, we shared the incredible room makeover that was completed by a team of volunteers from our Texas campus for one of Alliance for Children’s clients.

Alliance for Children based in Dallas, is one of the nonprofits we support through our charitable Foundation. They provide therapy for children who have been severely physically or sexually abused, working hand in hand with the police to bring their abusers to justice and to help these children move forward.

Often the abuse happens in the child’s home, particularly their bedrooms. Alliance began a room makeover program where they recruit volunteers to totally redecorate the child’s room to help remove any visible reference to what had happened there.

In advance of the makeover, the volunteers had to go through a two-hour training session, as well as get a background check. They learned things like what to say or not say to the child, and how to appropriately interact with the family during the makeover.

After the training, our Client Partner team from both campuses came together to provide a little healing and happiness for two siblings who were in need of a new start.

With support from the Corporate Communications team, the volunteers purchased paint and furniture, and worked together to makeover the rooms for the two children.

Kristine Watkins, Hope Rico, Mihn Pham, Yolanda Samples, and Sondra Morris went to the home the day before the makeover began to give the rooms a fresh coat of paint. Then the next day, the Client Partner team went to work and completely transformed the two spaces.

When the children returned home to find their beautiful new rooms, they squealed with delight over their new space, and were moved to tears by the simple act of kindness from our volunteers.
