Culture Team members on both campuses kicked off the new year this week with a look back at successes of last year and a renewed commitment to encouraging employee engagement in 2018.

The Culture Team was organized last year to help spread our servant leader-focused culture even more deeply throughout the company.

At its kickoff meeting, the team concluded that some of the work it began last year was successful and needs to continue in 2018.

Among those initiatives were the distinctive blue #All_In T-shirts that have been passed out to acknowledge how individual colleagues live our values every day. (Yes, remember, that spells LOVE – Live Our Values Every day!)

Also, another achievement were the conversations that another part of the Culture Team piloted last year to get different groups of employees together to talk about the company and our culture. Somewhere around 10 percent of employees have participated already and goals are being set to spread that even farther.

Both of those initiatives, in fact, will continue and probably expand in 2018.

And the team said it would be looking for other spontaneous ways to celebrate and spread the culture that makes National Life. Those might include something again like the stress kits that were distributed in December, acknowledging the workloads that so many around the company experience during the fourth quarter.

So, watch for more of these programs throughout the year. And if you’ve got ideas, feel free to reach out to any of the members of the Culture Team and suggest them.
