National Life’s annual Community Giving Campaign set a record for doing good, raising $288,660 for charities.

The campaign expanded the opportunities for matching employee contributions to nonprofits.

And employees, retirees and directors responded by giving $144,646.68 personally.

The National Life Group Foundation, which matched any contribution up to a total of $1,500 per employee, chipped in $144,013.54. The total between individuals and the Foundation was $288,660.54.

The money will be deducted from employees’ paychecks starting in January and the payments to charities will also take place in 2017.

“We’ve never before been able to do so much good on behalf of our employees and the charities they support,” said Beth Rusnock, president of the National Life Group Foundation. “We’re humbled by the generosity of everyone at National Life.”

In the last Community Giving Campaign earlier this year, $171,574.86 was donated to nonprofits, including $88,000.86 directly from employees.

Donations went to a wide variety of organizations, ranging from large well-known charities to smaller local groups.
