Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is celebrated each autumn over a five day period. The festival marks the start of the Hindu New year and symbolizes “the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”.
During the celebration revelers dress up and decorate with lights, illuminating the streets. For some the lights help the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, find her way into peoples’ homes, bringing them prosperity in the year to come.
It’s also a time for those who celebrate to gather and have fun with friends and family, exchanging gifts and enjoying traditional foods (especially sweets!). Many of our colleagues gathered recently to celebrate on both campuses – check out the festivities below!
