No, we’re not talking about Game of Thrones… but winter IS coming, and it’s coming quickly to the Vermont campus! The Facilities team wants to be sure you’re prepared.

National Life Employees,

The Facilities Team would like to remind everyone about parking on campus during the winter season.  Please remember to properly register and display your campus parking permit so that we have the ability to reach you in case of a problem.  Parking permits are available from Security – call 229-3254 or stop by the security desk in either the Main or Davis lobbies.

Please remember that overnight parking on the roads, parking lots or upper level of the garage is prohibited and vehicles will be towed at owners expense after 9 pm.

Overnight parking is allowed inside the parking garage but you must provide security with your vehicle and contact information.   If a winter storm occurs during the daytime and you decide to leave your car on campus overnight, please remember to move your car into the parking garage and notify security before you leave.   Again, vehicles left outside will be towed at owners expense so the team can completely clear the lots and make them ready for the next business day.

When parking near a sidewalk, please be mindful not to have your bumper overhang the sidewalk as it prevents the tractors from thoroughly removing the snow.  This can create a safety hazard for pedestrians once the car is moved.

Also a couple other reminders

  • Slips and falls can happen at any time, but are more prevalent in the winter months. Encourage employees not to wear smooth-soled shoes or high heels, especially outdoors.
  • Refrain from using cellphones when walking through the parking lots or on sidewalks.
  • Please don’t speed.  Especially during a winter storm.  Stopping distances increase when roads are slippery.
  • Be mindful of people in crosswalks.
  • Please don’t crowd or pass equipment performing winter maintenance activities.  The crew is out there working hard to clear the parking lots and sidewalks to help keep everybody safe.
  • There is an overnight parking ban that applies to National Life Drive, when enacted by the City Manager during winter events.  Please do not leave your car on the street, it will be towed.   When a Winter Parking Ban is in effect, parking will be prohibited between the hours of 1:00 AM and 7:00 A.M. on all City streets.
  • Make accommodations for inclement weather and leave home early for work.   Remember – Ice and Snow, Take it Slow!

Thank you and be safe this winter.
