Employees are daring to be vulnerable across both campuses. The Dare to Lead Book Talk series, supported by #WIN and the People Center, has been running two series of seminars since December, one in Texas and one in Vermont.

The Texas sessions, moderated by Stephani Myers, and the Vermont sessions, co-moderated by Allison Steinmetz and Elizabeth Waring, have really taken flight. The series takes place on Friday mornings from 10 am – 11 am through mid February.

Written by New York Times bestselling author and researcher Brené Brown, Dare to Lead is touted as the ultimate playbook for developing brave leaders and courageous cultures using skill sets that are 100% teachable.

Over 50 participants in Vermont and 10 participants in Texas, including remote employees participating via Skype, have signed on for the sessions and are fully leaning into vulnerability, developing themselves as leaders and becoming more self aware by practicing brave work, tough conversations, and showing up wholeheartedly. In the words of the author, “Who we are is how we lead.”

Topics have ranged from the armor we all wear to care, connection, shame, and empathy. Through journaling, small group activities, and large group discussion, participants dive deeply together into each issue and how it manifests at both home and at work.

The Dare to Lead series has created a safe and sacred space for sharing and connection.

“This has been an awesome experience, but the thing that I am most honored with is that people feel safe to share their stories, experiences, and their feelings, some of which are very personal to that individual. I am also surprised at how much I can relate to each person, even though our stories and our backgrounds are different.”
– Stephani Myers, moderator in Texas

“It is an honor to be a part of creating a container for myself and my colleagues in which we get to connect so deeply with one another and celebrate the leader that is inside each of us. In our sessions, all of the walls come down. Titles don’t matter. Departments don’t matter. Years at the company don’t matter. Showing up wholeheartedly – flaws, messiness, and all – is encouraged and is incredibly beautiful.”
– Allison Steinmetz, co-moderator in Vermont
