We learned this week how Courtney LaMountain, a senior underwriting consultant who lives in Hilton Head Island, S.C., had to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Matthew earlier this month and spent the time out of her home volunteering.

family-102116Suzanne Kingsbury, AVP of Underwriting, tells us that Courtney and her family were evacuated from their home on Wednesday, October 5, and were able to return on Tuesday evening, October 11.   During this time, Courtney a native of New England, learned first- hand what is like to have to depend on the generosity of others in her personal and professional life.

Courtney felt helpless during some of the days she was displaced.   She felt terrible that she could not work and her co-workers were going to have to pick up the slack.  So, Courtney decided if she couldn’t work, she was going to Do Good, Be Good, Make Good and volunteer working in her community!

She and her family volunteered at a local church helping to prepare 1,200 meals a day for those affected by the storms in her community.

Her husband Jim, stayed in Hilton Head while the island was evacuated to assist the local hospital prepare for and recover from the storm.

“The company values have really touched my family and I,” Courtney said. “They are simple and have taken on a whole new meaning to me.  Our company vision, mission and values truly are the core of human nature.  I am so blessed to have my family and I safe and to work for a company that truly understands people’s needs!”
