Cyber Security Awareness Month is almost here! Throughout the month of October, the Information Security Team will be hosting over 20 events, ranging from eye-opening presentations, to hands on demonstrations, all aimed at improving your personal security. There will be sessions held in both Vermont and Texas, and almost all the sessions will be available for remote employees to join through Skype.

Find out what to expect with the event descriptions listed below –

Security 101

  • Join us for a hands-on event, showcasing 3 different stations where you can explore and test out different types of security tools, software and practices to make your cyber identity more secure. Learn and test out controls such as Virtual Private Networks (VPN), advanced router features, two factor authentication (2FA) and more across all your devices! Attending this event will leave you better prepared for the cyber threats of today and the near future.

Passive Recon

  • Ever wondered what a potential cyber-criminal could find out about you just though the internet alone? Passive Recon will showcase just how much information is out there about most of us, and how cyber criminals can aggregate this data to use in potentially malicious ways.

Privacy 202

  • Privacy 202 will cover what you need to know to secure your digital identity and take back control of your personal privacy from invasive advertising companies, untrustworthy social media sites, and cyber criminals. Your personal privacy is a right that is constantly being pressured in today’s world, and a right that too many people are letting go of. Learn how to fight back at this eye-opening presentation.

Live Demo – Password Hacking

  • You hear it all the time, use a strong password, don’t reuse passwords, don’t use common words or names in your passwords, the list of advice goes on and on. But why are all of these tips so important? Why is Information Security constantly reinforcing these ideas? Learn why in this exciting LIVE demonstration, where we will showcase two different attacks on passwords.

Secure Smart Home Expo

  • Experts have been saying it for years, and they were right, smart devices are popping up everywhere. It started with smart light bulbs and smart speakers, now we have smart kitchen faucets and even smart water bottles. Come check out a selection of smart (and secure) home devices and see what all the hubbub is about!

Phishing Evolved (The Year of Targeted Phishing)

  • Ten years ago, hackers were much more likely to implement a spray and pray method when sending out phishing emails. Times have changed and nowadays the default email security from providers like Office 365 are already blocking the most blatant phishing sprays, so the hackers have had to change their behavior. Phishing emails have evolved, and attacks are becoming more sophisticated and targeted. Join us as we take a deep dive into spear phishing, whaling, and extortion via phish in the “Phishing Evolved” presentation presented by Information Security.

Like in recent years, there will also be an end of the month raffle with prizes totaling well over $1,000.  For each event that you attend, you will earn 1 raffle ticket and a better chance of winning the following awesome prizes –

Apple Watch Series 4

Bruins Tickets (x2)

1 Hour Massage Gift Card

$300 Worth of Amazon, Panera, Starbucks, and Gas Gift Cards.
