On Sunday, September 2nd, National Life Group and The Vermont Agency were off to the races at Thunder Road at the annual Sweethearts and Heroes event. EVP, Customer Innovation Group Vesta Bovair was in attendance, and here’s what she had to say…

We were off to the races! Literally!

There was a lot of preparation behind the scenes and anticipation for the 40th annual Labor Day Classic. From drivers and pit crews and sponsors, to the actual race with adrenaline pumping, cars bumping and squealing tires; photos with Speed Bump (mascot) and cheese samples flung to the spectators; after the heats, there were point tallies, trophy presentations and thank you speeches, followed by real time feedback from the MC about the quality of the speeches.

Sweethearts and Heroes had a tent and were there promoting messages of bystander empowerment, empathy and leadership. Tom Murphy was inspirational at a Vermont Agency meeting in July. He is a passionate educator about the impact bullying has on all of our schools, our neighborhoods, and individuals. Children, teachers, parents and all members of society

need to know that we all have the potential to be someone’s Sweetheart and the power to be a Hero.

This message of empathy applies to all of us. As we fulfill our mission of Keeping our Promises, we have the power to be both a Sweetheart and a Hero. We are here not just for our customers, but all of our teammates including more than 100 new hires!

The connections we create make all the difference. They are the fuel that propels us to keep breaking records.

This is the beginning of the our most wonderful time of the year. We head into it with impressive numbers – already having hit our stretch goal of $182 million for Life – while wrapping up hiring, integrating and training the many new teammates we will be making room for this month.

We are off to the races. Bring on Q4!
