A new LifeChanger of the Year award was presented in a surprise ceremony Tuesday to Debra Santiago of Orlando, Florida. She received the 2017-18 Spotlight Award.
Faculty and students, as well as National Life’s own Mallorie Manosh and Maria McLendon, gathered at Timber Lakes Elementary School to celebrate Debra’s contributions.
In her nomination, Debra’s principal describes her as, “…loving, caring, nurturing, supportive, welcoming, and warm. Ms. Santiago has gone above and beyond as a secretary/bookkeeper in order to make an impact on her students without hesitation.”
Debra also encourages students to celebrate diversity by organizing a Multicultural Festival at their school each year. The entire community comes together at this popular event to learn about different cultures through dance, music and arts.
Debra is the secretary at Timber Lakes. The Spotlight Award is a new one designed to recognize an educator in a particular discipline each year for the extra contributions they make to their school.
As this year’s Spotlight Award winner, Debra was awarded with a $5,000 cash prize to be split between a $2,500 individual award and a $2,500 donation to her school.
Our 2013-14 Grand Prize Winner Betty Chandler, who works in the same district, was on hand for the surprise ceremony and presented Debra with a special necklace, telling her she is now a link in the LifeChanger chain.
