Talk about commitment to a cause. Tim Shea recently went elbows deep in trash to figure out just how sustainable we are on the Vermont campus.

National Life Group is committed to waste diversion and reducing landfill waste. All the resources exist for us to make zero percent waste a reality. All we need is your participation.

Join us in making this happen by Thinking Zero. We’re off to a great start. We have set a high standard to be a zero percent waste facility, but we are committed to making it a reality.

We recently conducted a waste audit to determine what materials where thrown in the trash – for a trip to the landfill – but could have been recycled.

That’s where Tim found himself in all that trash because the audit required sorting through everything in a Dumpster and determining what was appropriately tossed in the trash and what should have been recycled or composted.

The audit discovered nearly 50 percent by weighted volume of materials could have been diverted through recycling.

The primary materials were paper, plastic/glass containers, and compostable foods.

What can you do to improve our numbers?

Please wash your recyclable food containers and throw them into the single sort containers on your floors. Please avoid putting liquids in your trash bags as they can leak into your trash containers or onto the carpet.

We will need full compliance and appreciate the daily efforts to Think Zero.

Please share your ideas and assist others in understanding the process and importance of this initiative. Along the way, we hope you’ll take the habits into your home life and share with all your family and friends.
