Our National Life Group Lifesavers team braved the wind and waves last Sunday to compete in the Lake Champlain Dragonboat Festival at Burlington’s Waterfront Park.

The team made Division A this year (they were #8 out of 47 community teams), a significant improvement over the past 2 years of Division B.

They won their first heat against Union Mutual and BCBS Rhythm and Blues (A Team) with only 16 paddlers and no drummer.

For the  second race of the day, they were up against last year’s winners WND&WVS and despite shaving off 4 seconds from their first time, with a full boat against the waves again, they were unable to  beat the competition (they actually ended up being this year’s winners again).

The team  ended up being milliseconds slower than the team that ultimately lost against WND&WVS in the final division race.

Team captain Jessica Ball was proud to share in the team’s accomplishments.

“The team did great even with the difficult conditions on the water – which made paddling much more challenging – and we all had a great time!”
