We all know that every time we don one of those black Do Good volunteer shirts and pitch in to help at a nonprofit there’s a huge benefit.

But an interesting report we ran across recently helps put it into perspective.

An organization called Independent Sector, which is a national group that links nonprofits, foundations and corporations, has studied the value of volunteering.

It found that in 2016, every hour that volunteers donated to charities had an estimated value of $24.14.

So, if we do a little math, the value of paid volunteer time that National Life and its employees provided to nonprofits in Vermont and Texas last year was nearly $130,000.

Not surprisingly, the value by state varies fairly significant. In Vermont, the value is $23.29. And Texas the value $25.15.

But as any of us who has volunteered knows, the work we put it in at charities is truly invaluable. For many of them, they couldn’t survive without folks who Do Good. Like us.
