Are you a fan of “Antiques Roadshow,” which airs on public television? If you are, did you catch that one of our own made an appearance in January? And if you aren’t a regular viewer, this one’s worth checking out.
Susan Jennings of the Law Department went to a taping of the popular PBS show in Fort Worth last summer and she just appeared in a recent episode. Check it out.
She took a Rhode Island sampler that’s been in her family since 1817 for the experts’ take on its condition and potential value.
Samplers are beautiful pieces of artwork in fabric, stitched with scenes and sayings.
“Antiques Roadshow” allows people who have antiques to appear and have their possessions evaluated and appraised.
The appraiser said that Susan’s sampler was in beautiful condition and had many unusual features, including the age of the woman who stitched it and some of the characters illustrated on it. He theorized that a woman at the bottom might have been a representation of the artist herself.
Susan and her family have the sampler beautifully displayed in a wood frame.
The appraiser said the sampler would be worth $35,000 to $45,000 on the market.
